Welcome to the Jackson Health System/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Our ACGME-approved residency is a 3-year program that includes an optional additional year of an integrated “Academic Pathway” with fellowship opportunities in Critical Care, Research, Education/Simulation, Pre-hospital/Disaster and Administration among others.

We offer a comprehensive patient-centered model designed to train compassionate and expert Emergency Medicine leaders. Our EM residency provides a well-rounded curriculum that conforms to the standards of the ACGME to develop outstanding future clinicians and scholars. Rotation locations include the University of Miami Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital in neighboring Broward County.

Established in the heart of Miami in 1918, Jackson Memorial Hospital is the largest public hospital in the nation. Our emergency department sees an average of 110,000 adults and pediatric visits per year and is home to the only Level One Trauma Center serving the 2.6 million habitants of Miami-Dade County and beyond. As the county’s safety net hospital, we see a broad spectrum of conditions and diseases and proudly make a difference in the lives of our patient population daily. Our entire EM faculty has decades of experience educating students, interns and residents and is dedicated to teaching, promoting and advancing emergency medicine.

Program leadership includes Chief of Emergency Medicine Bobby Kapur MD, MPH, a renowned International EM expert, and Residency Director Amado Alejandro Baez, MD, MSc, MPH, FAAEM, FCCM, an expert in pre-hospital/ disaster medicine, critical care and public health.
