Background
- Central α agonists lower blood pressure by stimulating α-receptors in the brain which causes peripheral vasodilation
Medications
- clonidine
- guanabenz
- guanfacine
- methyldopa

Adverse effects
- sedation
- drying of the nasal mucosa
- rebound hypertension
