Differential Diagnosis

Evaluation

  • Careful history and physical
  • Mostly clinical diagnosis

Management

  • Treat the underlying cause
  • Tinea treated with either topical or systemic antifungals
  • Dermatology referral especially for cicatrial alopecia (inflammatory disorders of scalp that lead to permanent hair loss)
  • Psych referral for trichotillomania
