Overview
Indications
- Priapism
- Penile Laceration repair
- Penile fracture
Contraindications
- Infection overlying injection site
Equipment Needed
- Local anesthetic
- Chloraprep
- Syringe with blunt fill needle and 27ga needle
Procedure
- Obtain informed consent
- Draw up 2-5cc of local anesthetic
- Clean area of injection
- Using 27G needle, insert at 2 and 10 o'clock position at base of penis for dorsal nerve block
- Alternatively, inject anesthetic in complete ring around base of penis for complete block
- Note: nerves lay below buck's fascia.
Complications
- Damage of nearby vessels
- Damage to urethra
- Permanent loss of sensation
