History

It is a community hospital PGY 1-3 program in Chicago with 39 Emergency Medicine residents. The program, established in 1996, conforms to all requirements specified by the ACGME and is fully accredited through 2018. Its mission is to train superb physicians who are prepared for the clinical, academic and administrative challenges involved in being an Emergency Medicine physician in the 21st Century. The program meets this mission by providing a dedicated, residency trained and board certified faculty consisting of Attending Physicians with diverse interests in all areas of the specialty. Each faculty member has dedicated time for journal clubs, lectures, and research.

The residents encounter a unique and diverse patient population through the different hospitals in which they rotate. Its combined Emergency Department census exceeds 100,000 patient encounters, a high percentage of which are critically ill. This provides ample opportunity for procedures and resuscitations for residents at all levels of training starting on the first day of residency. It takes pride in caring for the community regardless of race, religion, or insurance status. The residents, faculty, and leadership feel the best place to learn is in the Emergency Department. This is where clinical development takes place; where we build camaraderie and develop long lasting peer relationships. The cornerstone of success for Emergency Medicine training is obtaining the knowledge, comfort, and expertise to practice in this field.
