Background

Diagnosis

Treatment

  1. Evacuate the clot
    1. Make semi-circle incision inside the inner curvature of the helix or antihelix
    2. Remove hematoma by gentle suction or curettage
  2. Prevent re-bleeding
    1. Pack the helix w/ petroleum jelly-impregnated gauze
    2. Place regular gauze both in front of and behind the ear
    3. Circle the head with a compressive wrap
  3. Antibiotics
    1. Only indicated for immunocompromised patients
    2. Cover pseudomonas and S. aureus
