Background
Adults = food bolus (usually meat) lodged above a peptic stricture or ring. >12 hours = risk of pulmonary aspiration.
Diagnosis
- dysphagia
- odynophagia
Work-Up
Consider soft tissue lateral
DDx
- stricture/ring
- cancer
- eosinophilic esophagitis
- achalasia
Treatment
- Coke-Cola PO
- Nitro spray SL
- Glucagon (1.0 mg IV/IM)
- Endoscopy
Disposition
- resolved (spontaneously or after medical Tx) --> outpt GI referal
- not resolved --> GI consult
