History
Emergency management skills, medical knowledge, and an intrinsic ability to quickly and accurately recognize the seriousness of a patient’s condition presenting to the ED are all critical to most efficient patient care. The recognition and development of these talents is what separates the best training programs from the rest. Curriculum
Residents rotate through a yearly 'block' schedule which is a 4 week period for a total of 13 blocks in a 12 month academic year.
PGY1
- July – Orientation
- Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center – 5 blocks (includes 1 month of nights)
- Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center – 1 block
- Medical ICU at Maricopa Medical Center – 1 block
- Neurology, Orthopedics, & Anesthesiology – 3 weeks, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, respectively
- Trauma – 1 block
- OB/GYN (nights only) – 2 weeks
- Elective - 1 block
- Vacation – 3 weeks
PGY2
- Emergency Medicine at Maricopa Medical Center – 6 blocks (includes 1 block of nights
- Emergency Medicine at Banner University Medical Center – 1 block
- Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Phoenix Children’s Hospital – 1 block
- Toxicology at Banner Poison Center – 1 block
- Burn Intensive Care Unit at The Arizona Burn Center – 1 block
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Maricopa Medical Center – 1 block
- Coronary Care Unit at Banner University Medical Center - 1 block
- Elective - 1
- Vacation – 3 weeks
PGY3
- Emergency Medicine at Copa – 8 block (includes 1 block of nights)
- Emergency Medicine at Banner Good Samaritan – 1 block
- Emergency Medicine at Scottsdale Health Care – 1 block
- Pediatric Anesthesia, Ped ED at Cardon Children's Hospital - 1 block (1 week, 3 week, respectively)
- Medical ICU at Copa – 1 block
- Elective – 1 block
- Vacation – 4 weeks
