Indications

Contraindications

  • Infection overlying injection site

Equipment Needed

  • Local anesthetic
  • Chloraprep
  • Syringe with blunt fill needle and 27ga needle

Procedure

  • Obtain informed consent
  • Draw up 2-5cc of local anesthetic
  • Clean area of injection
  • Using 27G needle, insert at 2 and 10 o'clock position at base of penis for dorsal nerve block
    • Alternatively, inject anesthetic in complete ring around base of penis for complete block
    • Note: nerves lay below buck's fascia.

Complications

  • Damage of nearby vessels
  • Damage to urethra
  • Permanent loss of sensation
