Carolinas Laparoscopic and Advanced Surgery Program (CLASP) was established by Dr. B. Todd Heniford in 1998. CLASP combines talented medical professionals and minimally invasive surgical techniques to improve the outcome of patients with disorders of the intestine, spine, solid organs, heart and others. They pioneer new surgical techniques in minimally invasive surgery, along with ground-breaking studies and education methods. | |||
In an effort to better evaluate and track the quality-of-life (QOL) for patients undergoing hernia surgery, CLASP physicians developed and patented the Carolinas Comfort Scale® (CCS)—an assessment now being used all over the world. The wide spread adoption of the CCS has lead to CLASP’s most recent innovation, the Carolinas Equation for Quality of Life (CeQOL). This application predicts the incidence of chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair. Users simply answer 19 simple questions about their demographic, clinical and QOL status and a risk score for having pain one year following surgery is generated and interpreted.
