Background
Definition: Core Temp < 35°C (95 °F)
- Mild hypothermia (32-35°C) (90-95)
- Moderate hypothermia (28-32°C)
- Severe hypothermia (<28°C)
Work-Up
ECG: Osborne J wave "camel hump"
DDx
- Accidental/environmental
- Sepsis
- Hypoendocrine states (e.g. hypothyroidism, hypoadrenalism, hypopituitarism)
- Hypoglycemia (-> impaired hypothalmus)
- CNS dysfunction, hypothalmic, e.g Wernickes
- Head trauma , stroke, tumor
- Drug-induced ETOH (vasodilator, CNS depressant)
- Skin disorder - burns, exfoliative dermatitis
