Indications for Head CT due to Seizure[1]
- Consider CT head in the followin situations:
- First seizure if age older than 40
- History of acute head trauma
- History of malignancy
- Immunocompromised status
- Suspect Intracraneal Process
- History of anticoagulation
- New focal neurologic deficit
- Focal onset before generalization
- Persistently altered mental status
- If patient has returned to a normal baseline with nonfocal neuro exam:
- When feasible, perform a neuroimaging of the brain in the ED on patients with a first-time seizure
- Deferred outpatient neuroimaging may be used when reliable follow-up is available
