Coney Island Hospital

History

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island will train residents in the practice of providing safe and effective emergent care to more than 70,000 patients who pass through the Emergency Department each year. The program offers 16 positions in Emergency Medicine training, 4 residents per year. NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island is a community-based, full-service hospital in the southern part of Brooklyn with 371 acute care beds and 300,000 outpatient visits. Board certified emergency medicine physicians will provide 24 hour supervision of the residents in the ED. The diverse community of unique cultures offers this program an enriched opportunity to not only train residents in rendering care to mixed groups of people; but also exposes the residents to the varied habits and customs of many cultures. It is the goal of this program to create a physician who is comfortable in a busy Emergency Department setting; a patient advocate and a physician who wants to drive continuous changes in the practice of Emergency Medicine for the betterment of all they serve.
