Administration

Adult Dosing

  • 1-2 drops of 2% or 5% solution q3-4h

Contraindications

  • Allergy to class/drug
  • primary glaucoma or tendency toward glaucoma (e.g, narrow anterior chamber angle)

Adverse Reactions

Serious

  • Raised IOP
  • Keratitis
  • Systemic absorption and antimuscarinic reaction
  • Eye pain

Mechanism of Action

  • Anticholinergic, blocks the responses of the sphincter muscle of the iris and stimulation of ciliary body muscle, leading to cycloplegia and mydriasis
