  • Also known as the IP joint
  • Uncommon
  • Dislocations often associated with open injuries

Clinical Features

  • Thumb pain/deformity

Differential Diagnosis

Hand and finger dislocations

Hand and finger injuries

Evaluation

  • X-ray thumb (PA and lateral)

Management

Reduction

  • Median nerve block
  • Reduce similar to IP joint of other digits

Splinting

  • Immobilization in mild flexion for 3wk is usually all that is required

Disposition

  • Outpatient
