Indications

Dysphagia Odynophagia (pain on swallowing) Hoarseness FB ingestion Sensation in throat Angioedema Assessment of airway Be careful when impending airway compromise because cause swelling but can be done with airway team present

Contraindications

Flexible laryngoscopy Decongestant: oxymetazolin (afrin) 0.05% .1-1% phenylephrine Anesthetic Lidocaine 4% Cocaine 5% works as both

Procedure

Attach light n suction Fogging Warm end in warm water to prevent fogging Ask patient swallow If can't go through nares, go through mouth

Tips

mirror laryngoscopy Minimize gag by pts eyes open n focus on breathing

complications

laryngospasm if paraglottic infections
