Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) Criteria
- Still acceptable to use in ED depending on local protocol
- Misses up to 1/8 very septic ICU patients[1]
- ≥2 of 4 criteria must be present:
- Temperature >38°C (100.4F) or <36°C (96.9F)
- HR >90 BPM
- RR >20 breaths/minute or PaCO2 <32 mmHg
- WBC count >12,000/mm3, <4,000/mm3, or >10% bands/immature forms
