History

Their Emergency Department consists of 31 clinical faculty, 5 research faculty, and multiple adjunct faculty involved in the teaching, administration, research, and clinical care missions of the department. Their department sees volumes of approximately 55,000 adults and 15,000 pediatric patients yearly. As one of the largest referral centers in North Carolina, they see some of the highest acuity patients in the state, with an admit rate near 30%. They are a certified Level I Trauma Center, state Burn Center, and JCHAO Stroke Center.
