Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital
History
Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital (AMOH) is a dual-campus community hospital located in Metro Detroit. Our primary institution exists as the sole trauma-accredited and PTCA-capable hospital within Michigan's 3rd largest city of Warren, only four miles from Detroit's infamous 8 Mile Rd. Our smaller secondary campus, located five miles from our main hospital, is also home to a variety of complex and rare medical pathology with the occasional walk-in penetrating trauma. These two sites expose our residents to a combined >100,000 ER visits per year, in addition to two very divergent patient populations.
The ER residents at AMOH complete tertiary pediatric ER rotations at both our sister hospital, St. John Medical Center--located deep within Detroit's East Side--and at University of Michigan-affiliated Hurley Medical Center, located in Flint and home to the state's highest volume of penetrating injury. Residents have a choice between rotating at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore or at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit for their trauma rotation during PGY-2.
AMOH houses >20 graduate medical education programs, with approximately 240 residents and fellows. We serve as a base hospital for 100 medical students from both Michigan State University and Kansas City University; and our ER program is a longstanding member of the Michigan State University Statewide Campus System, which provides monthly national speakers as well as a multitude of hands-on training labs with 16 other EM programs from across the state.
Please contact us and schedule a visit or a rotation if you are interested. We'll see you in the ER!
