Riverside University Health System (Riverside County Medical Center)

History

Riverside University Health System (RUHS), located in Moreno Valley, California, has played an essential role in providing critical healthcare services to Riverside County and beyond. The facility has a deep-rooted history, originally established to serve the healthcare needs of Riverside County's rapidly growing population. RUHS is a short drive to Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties.

RUHS serves as the County hospital of Riverside. From its early days as a small county hospital to its current status as a major level 1 trauma, comprehensive stroke center in Moreno Valley, the facility has consistently adapted to the growing needs of the community. The hospital’s commitment to providing accessible and high-quality emergency and trauma care has made it a vital institution for residents of Riverside County and beyond, particularly for underserved populations who depend on its services during critical moments.

RUHS started its Emergency Medicine Residency in 2021.

Our first years learn, across the different services, pivotal information that is required for subsequent years. Our residents are not restricted in procedures in the Emergency Department, and have seen and done a variety of procedures from central lines and arterial lines to transvenous pacers and burr holes. On shift, our residents are strongly encouraged to hone their ultrasound skills.

Our second years are expected to operate as seniors. They will be placed in charge of the department to understand ED workflow and how to delegate tasks. They are encouraged to be a part of different interdepartmental committees such as Trauma, Stroke, and Sepsis. During the Ultrasound Rotation, residents will learn more advanced skills to help precisely manage patients. On other services, our residents are also expected to operate as seniors, taking charge of the service and implementing what they have learned previously.

  • Emergency Medicine - 32 weeks
  • Medical Intensive Care Unit - 2 weeks
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit - 2 weeks
  • Community EM (Redlands) - 8 weeks
