Background

  • Includes necrotizing forms of cellulitis, myositis, and fasciitis
  • Two types:
    • Type 1: polymicrobial infection
    • Type 2: group A strep
      • May occur in healthy individuals
      • May occur via hematogenous spread from throat to site of blunt trauma
